Sithijaya our centre in Ambalantota is wholly dedicated to children with disabilities. The centres offers educational, therapy and lifeskills support for newborns to young adults. Child with Cerebral Palsy, Down’s Syndrome and other disorders travel from their homes to learn new skills, achieve independence and even be trained in a vocational skill. Art, Dancing, music and physiotherapy are used to build the confidence of children from the surrounding area so that they may be able to make active contributions to society.
The centre is a joint collaboration with the DS Division of Ambalantota and we work together to serve one of the area’s most vulnerable populations. In an area where people with disabilities are often hidden due to social and cultural norms, Sithijaya or "the horizon" acts as a meeting point for tradition and the empowerment of the disabled allowing them to take their rightful place in their community and Sri Lanka. The cost of operations including transport to the centre is borne by the MJF Charitable Foundation.
