Our MJF Kids programme is an integral part of the Foundation. The Peliyagoda and Maligawatte programme celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2016. In addition to education support in required subjects including English, children aged 6 to 16 participate in a variety of extra-curricular activities tailored to provide them with life skills, and wider exposure to today’s world.
The afterschool programme provides children from less privileged backgrounds with Leadership skills, Chess, Sports, Yoga, Art, Music, Theatre, Gymnastics and Dance. All these mediums help bring out a child’s inherent talent and provide the confidence required for academic and later life success. Furthermore, recognizing the minimal opportunities for alternative education, the MJF Kids programme also provides vocational training to girls and boys in carpentry, sign language, urban farming IT etc. A strong network of linkages with other NGOs and government services allows boys and girls to access further resources.
The MJF Moratuwa centre is pleased to host its own Scouting and Guiding companies. The Girl Guides is Sri Lanka’s first and only fully integrated Guiding company with young girls ranging from Little Friends to Guides and includes a disability unit with girls from the Rainbow Centre.
Every December, MJF Kids in Centres across Sri Lanka gather in Moratuwa to perform together with the Rainbow Kids at the Celebrating Differences concert which is open to the Parents, Performers, Teachers and Staff of Dilmah.
