Let Us Experience the True Meaning of Peace' - 615 MJF Kids Celebrate Children's Day in Point Pedro |
The MJF Charitable Foundation together with its partner ‘Anjali Aham’ brought together 615 children to celebrate International Children’s Day 2011. Since mid-October, Fr. Damian and his team from Anjali Aham conducted competitions for the children – general knowledge, art, essays, poetry, singing, dancing and speech. The children were also challenged by the MJF Foundation to present their message to the world. A panel of judges consisting teachers and educationists evaluated the presentations and awarded prizes in several categories.
| Amongst the 615 children, were 300 from the MJF Kids programme in Point Pedro and the others from 11 schools in the Vadamarachchi area. Most were directly affected by the conflict that prevailed and their presentations were a plea to adults to allow them to blossom and realise their potential. Their messages reflected the agonies caused by a conflict of 3 decades. They included, “You call us the future – We are also the present”, “We are the children whose voices are not being heard - It’s time for you to listen to us”, “Allow us the freedom to live our lives – help us develop ourselves”. The final celebrations of International Children’s Day took place on the 23rd of October 2011 at Anjali Aham in Point Pedro where 129 MJF Kids and 173 School students competed in the various competitions and 33 MJF Kids and 50 students representing the schools emerged winners of the competitions. The teachers and trainers were also felicitated during the celebrations. This concluded a series of events held throughout the month of October by the MJF Foundation, in commemoration of International Children’s Day. The celebrations started with the annual Leadership Camp for the MJF Kids, followed by celebrations at the MJF Kids home in Peliyagoda and MJF Centre in Moratuwa. A medical camp was also conducted for the MJF Kids in Peliyagoda and Moratuwa. | | | |
