Gemi Aruna the Agri products society that was initiated and is supported by the MJF Charitable Foundation is involved in growing the real Sri Lankan oranges (Bibile Sweet Oranges) and they also grow pineapple as an additional crop.
Yesterday (11th of June) the Society presented to our Settlor the first fruits of their harvest of pineapples.
The president of the Society Samantha personnaly visited the MJF Group office to thank the Settlor and the team for the assistance that is provided to the community thru the society.
Samantha’s wife came up with a unique receipe for the Pineapples and given below are pictures taken while she was cooking.
I was fortunate enough to taste this dish and it was one of the most delicious dishes that i have ever tastes
The Pahalalanda society that was casted out and not have received many assistance from other organizations or even the Government was more or less an abandoned society for years.
With the entree of the MJF Chartibale Foundation to the village to help the society to bring back the real bibile oranges that existed 50 years ago in this village that was famous for its oranges the community was helped with their livelihoods too.
Although this village oversees one of the biggest reserviou of Sri Lanka (the D.S. Senanayake Water Reserviour) yet the villagers of Pahalalanda were suffering for ages with no water in their village to get involved in any vegitation / home gardening etc. they had to carry water from one of the irrigation cannals that is runing accross their village for their daily consuption, which is situated almost one kilo meters from their homes.
MJF Charitable Foundation provided to the society and the villagers water (a complete irrigation system that was designed by our own Engineer) for the oranges and pineapple cultivation and also for their day to day needs. The MJF Charitable Foundation will continue to support this community further with their livelihood and also education for the children. Updates will be posted on this page, so stay tuned.
