50 years ago Orange was a famous crop in Pahalalanda and then gradually lost its identity due to various reasons. When the MJF Charitable Foundation visited one of the beneficiary who was assisted thru its Small Entrepreneur Programme (SEP) with the Sri Lanka Prisons welfare they discovered the need of an industry and an income generating method for this community. After discussion and proper evaluations part of this community under the Leadership of Samantha was formed into a Community Based Organization (CBO) and was registered with the Department of Agriculture – Ampara. The Society called the CBO GemiAruna (Revival of the Village)
