Traditional Hindu Religious festival of the plantation communities

The MJFCF team whilst on their visit to the Holyrood Primary School site in February captured these images of a traditional religious festival being performed by the plantation workers.

 This is a usual Hindu festival celebrated by the plantation community in the month of January is called “Thai Poosa Thiruvila” in Tamil. Whilst the women carry special offerings to the temple the men perform the “parava kavadi” a special vow for lord Muruga.

imagine you having to cross a river to and from work, school, parties etc… carrying your belongings on your head, at the same time your cloths your wearing and wait till its dried to proceed ????? well this is what these people are going thru every single day of their lives…..  i did cross rivers for FUN ……. this is no fun…. but PAIN
